Session 33
Royal Requests
As the Resistance League rogues scattered off into the dark alleyways of Brassdorf, the Four Feathers reluctantly continued their pursuit. One of them led them to a particularly dark corridor that appeared to be shrouded in a dark mist. Cynic and Delbellis seemed to be the most eager of the group to investigate, though eventually the rest followed.
There was something strange about this obscuring mist; As Delbellis attempted to pass through, she found herself back at the start of the corridor. Luckily Cerrule still had some energy left to dispell it, and the group swiftly proceeded.
The backalleys of various dwellings beyond was seemingly vacant of activity, though with some luck, Delbellis’ keen eyes caught a faint shimmering in the air around them off on the sides. It appeared that they were surrounded by the Resistance League members, hidden behind some sort of invisibility spell.
They eventually revealed themselves, and for a moment it seemed like a fight was inevitable until Aragir mentioned wanting to see former Adventurer’s Guild Master Terrance Hillsbrad. Though the Resistance League did not seem to be keen to granting his request, nonetheless the Four Feathers were still escorted to their leader, Azekiel, who awaited them in a shoddy shed at the and of an alley near.
There they spoke with Azekiel who, before he was willing to even discuss the meeting of Terrance, attempted to explore the Four Feathers’ allegiance and explained to them what his own goals were.
In his eyes, the royal family held too much power, which was made evident during their attempts to cover up Myrneas. He wanted to overthrow the family and their loyalists, stopping at nothing to achieve this goal. He mentioned that they were working together with the Obsidian Fist, who had by now driven the Getaways out of the city and gained more power in the process. At this time, they mostly dealt in weaponry shipped from Avalon through their control of the Brassdorf harbor space, though their collaboration might expand in the future. He then mentioned that the Obsidian Fist had also taken over the Adventurer’s Guild after Terrance’s removal.
He bid the Four Feathers to help him in his endeavours, arguing that their cause was just. They need not do much, in case they feared making enemies; if only they could gain information on the inner workings of the Golden Garde, more specifically the guards posted at the Oblimora Checkpoints in the north at the edge of the Basalt Dominion's reach, the Resistance League would handle the rest.
Initially not convinced, Aragir kept asking for Terrance, whom Azekiel was still not willing to reveal to them. Until he found out that one of the residents of Myrneas was alive and conscious - an ancient elf they had saved from some petrification curse many moons ago. He wanted to strike another deal: if they would bring him the Myrneas resident then he would bring them to Terrance. They would meet at the Adventurer’s Guild to make this trade.
After a length discussion with Azekiel, the party were then led to the exit out to the streets, which appeared to be through a simple potion shop during the day. In order to come back through into these alleys, they were given a copper coin which they could show the potion shop's salesperson for passage. After this, the group finally turned in for the night at the Quick Halberd.
Another dream came over Cerrule that night. She found herself standing outside an immense heavenly gate, in some ways resembling the structure of a cage. Beyond it, she heard her name uttered by the voice of her mother. As she approached, the voice would pitch strangely and revealed to be an image of Enoreth herself. A ghostly Alenriel appeared as well, moving beyond the gate through its bars - suggesting a one-way effect. The voice of Enoreth explains how herself and her kin are bound behind this construct - created by Mortemus, a brother to them once. She may attempt to help Cerrule in the coming time, though limited by the closed gate, glimpses of the future may be bestowed from time to time. The dream fades, once again...
The next day, they decided to go to the Royal Palace to meet with the queen, though Cynic and Delbellis took a different path to try and find the information the Resistance League requested. On a bulletin board in a breakroom nearby they found duty folders of the Golden Garde and stationed forces in and around the city. And in addition, Cynic learned that an Aasimar agent was stationed in Diremound for some kind of mission.
In the meantime, Aragir and Cerrule had the anticipated meeting with the Queen. Monsters were sighted in Oblimora and nobility had disappeared from Elkenveil making communications troublesome between the nations, which the queen requested they investigate further before further escalations of aggression occur.
The two asked about Myrneas, but the queen and her advisor Uldritch were dismissive. They saw no importance in revealing information that would cause dissidence in the city. Instead, as a sign of good will, they were granted citizenship for their heroic display. Aragir was then handed the keys to a house in the Heatherarch residential zone in addition to the deed to prove ownership. Though both Aragir and Cerrule were suspicious, they played along for the time being.
After this, the group reconvened. Aragir and Cynic remembered that the Adventurer’s Guild had summoned them for some kind of evaluation and hoped their reward would soon be granted, as their gold was running low. Thus, the Four Feathers set forth towards their new destination...
