Session 38
The Void Vault
The fight was an arduous one, and the party soon learned that whatever these creatures were, they were more than they could handle at this very moment. To their luck, the door had opened again, and with help of Cynic’s Wall of Fire they were able to escape.
On their way out, Delbellis, who had flown up in the air, had noticed something moving in the previous room. She soon warned the others, and Aragir left his Aberration to block the entrance before they continued to the next room.
They had decided to stop making trails, as whoever followed them could easily track them with it, and quickly closed the metal door behind them.
This new room held several book cases lined up against the walls to the left and right of them.
While Cynic and Cerrule were trying to figure out how to proceed and how much time they would have before whatever they could now hear fighting with the constructs caught up with them, Aragir took a closer look at the books.
They appeared to be history books of some kind, written almost entirely in the ancient language Sylvan. Most of them spoke of an ancient city called Illuminus, city of the Enlightened. It was a city older than history itself, where the Gods were living amongst men. People could commune with them, and honour them in their presence. They could meet with them, and these benevolent Gods would give them guidance.
One such deities was named Savras, whom had a champion named Alenriel Valeri.
In the meantime Delbellis took a closer look at the Bronze Orb she had found in the previous room, along with the notes that lay underneath it. Though she recalled that there was a hole in the large construct’s chest that had about the exact size of this orb, there was little else she could learn from it, foreign as it was.
Recognising that the ancient city could have something to do with the Illuminus Lux that Delbellis and Cerrule spoke of, Aragir mentioned it to the rest of the team. This immediately piqued Delbellis’ interest. Aragir then noticed the orb she had found, and recognised it as the same type of orb as the one he had found before. The Aarakocra then handed him the artifact and notes, assuming he had more use of them.
The fighting behind the metal door got louder, and the group realised that time was running out. They quickly ran to the next chamber, which appeared to be a study room given it had several tables with scrolls and other papers in it.
In the middle of the room stood a bell jar on a pedestal, and in it stood a bust that carried a necklace with a familiar skull on it. Aragir quickly recognised it as one of the Vestiges, and implored the others to help him take it.
With help of Detect Magic, they knew that it was magically secured in some way, but given the lack of time Cerrule destroyed the bell jar after which Aragir quickly snagged it and put it in his lead box.
Escaping their pursuers -whom they had recognised as Garr, Vaeri and some of the archivists- by a hairsbreadth, they ran into the next room that turned out to be what looked like sewer tunnels. Delbellis noticed a flow of air coming from a certain direction, and the group decided to follow it.
The path eventually ended when they ran into a set of steel bars. Beyond it, they could only see the sky. Garr and the others were closing in and in a rush Delbellis used the Criir's Blade to fabricate the bars behind them and to create a parachute while Cynic used one of his magic beans and planted it in the dirt they had taken with them as a precaution.
The bean soon grew into a large pyramid, breaking through its surroundings and obstructing the way behind them. From behind it, they could hear the growls of a Mummy Lord.
Taking no chances with the time they had left, they then jumped down towards the Eastern Kingdoms with help of their newly invented parachute…
