Ancient Asteroid

A gigantic asteroid is believed to have struck Yggdrasil in Istros Borealis, shattering its single continent into several pieces. Over time, the continents that would form from it would become Esuna, Avalon and Eastern Kingdoms though others have not been known to exist beyond into the Expanse.

The crater which the ancient asteroid has left behind is appropriately named World Eater. The crater and its surroundings are highly irradiated which makes travel in and around it lethal. The rest of the continent, as a result, has turned from a lush green continent into a barrent icy wasteland where no modern civilisation could form.
