Synopsis
Aragir wears a coat that shows off his scholarly status, though the clothing underneath is of a more typical elvish design. He wears brass half-eye spectacles, and his belt is equipped to hold his book on one side, and a small amount of potions on the other. His gloves cover only part of his hands and some fingers, so that he will not smudge ink or touch dangerous substances with bare skin, yet is able to use skin contact for spells that require it. Around his neck he typically wears an arcane stone that he uses for his spells, though sometimes he will wear it in a pocket on the inside of his coat. The quarterstaff that he fights with is modified to serve as a perch for his familiar when he is not in battle.
Personality: Somewhat naive and perhaps a little stuck-up at times, but has his heart in the right place. Horrible at small talk.
Likes: Knowledge (Reading. Research). A good mystery. Sculpting plants and trees (by hand and/or magic). Fresh water. Mead.
Dislikes: Noise. Blood. Social gatherings. Meat.
Background
He has worked at the Scarlet Academy for over two centuries, and has recently wound up in this adventure due to unforseen circumstances. The Bronze Orb that put him there was later identified as a type of teleportation device of which another had been found in the ruins left behind in Abador.
Born in the southern regions of Esuna, Ara was one of four children in a rather humble family among the high elves.
Traveling was common for the elves in this community, and was seen as a logical stage in life where one would learn the mysteries of the world and grow into a fully fledged adult.
But Ara had never felt the wanderlust that would one day drive his siblings to separate into different parts of the world, and with the recommendation of an elder he instead turned to the Scarlet Academy, where he devoted himself to his studies. For what use would it be to find a mystery if one could not solve it?
There would be plenty of others willing to travel in his stead, and share with him their experiences for a small compensation.
Through his mentor he was confronted with questions that had determined the rest of his academic pursuit; How do the different planes of existence affect one another, and is there a way to use the various dimensions to the world's advantage? What knowledge and technology could come from the secrets that lay yet hidden beyond sight?
For years they worked together, and with his unwavering dedication and tenacity, he had garnered a reputation within the academy that inspired both respect and discontent among his peers. The latter more for his unconventional methods rather than trivial jealousy.
But even his mentor felt the drive to explore the outside world eventually, and after realizing that their views were no longer the same, the older man left the academy and left Ara as the head of his research.
Though Ara would never understand how such a brilliant mind could eventually, too, fall to the primal instinct of traveling, he nevertheless saw it as an honour to be granted his master's old position. Surely this was a sign that a new stage in his life had begun, and so he changed not only his first name, but his second as well. This way he would stand out from the elven peers he sought to distinguish himself from.
Henceforth he would be called 'Aragir Norde'. The latter a playful iteration of 'North'; Ever forward.
But of course, life works in strange ways. While studying a device of seemingly otherworldly design that one of his hirelings had brought back to him, he found himself warped to a place yet unknown to him.
Guards soon surrounded him, and he realised he found himself within a palace of sorts. To his luck, his older brother Druindar, officer of the Golden Garde, happened to be present and quickly dismissed the men.
The two brothers exchanged information, the consensus being that Aragir should return to the Academy as soon as possible.
And this he would do as intended when he headed for the wizard's guild not far from the palace, had it not been for the clue he found to a mystery of a different kind...
