A gigantic asteroid is believed to have struck Yggdrasil in Istros Borealis, shattering its single continent into several pieces. Over time, the continents that would form from it would become Esuna, Avalon and Eastern Kingdoms though others have not been known to exist beyond into the Expanse.
The crater, which the ancient asteroid has left behind, is appropriately named World Eater. This crater and its surrounding area are highly irradiated making travel in and around it lethal. The rest of the continent, as a result of the impact, has turned from a lush green continent into a barrent icy wasteland where no modern civilisation could form.
