A Feather in the Wind

As the evening neared, the Four Feathers visited Fayed’s place to have a final meal together before Delbellis’ departure. Scotty and Nyx were already there when they arrived, helping to set the table before the meal was ready.

It was a mostly vegetarian course, as was the monks’ way. With all of the herbs and spices available there was plenty for everyone to enjoy, though it was clear not everyone could handle the hotter spices. Near the end of the course, Delbellis challenged Loxen to use her firebreath to finish some creme brulee, which to perhaps everyone’s surprise, the small dragonborn succeeded perfectly.

A bit later another aarakocra entered. Carrying a barrel on her back, she was introduced as Monte BlueBarrel, Delbellis’ alchemy tutor. The barrel sported a spout, through which she promptly poured everyone a mug of her iconic blue beverage.

Fayed asked Delbellis about where she was going next, and she explained how she was going to Avalon to follow Solis. Though the older man could not quite understand why, he knew better than to challenge the things the young aarakocra had already set her mind on.

Nyx was noticeably displeased with the knowledge that Delbellis was once again leaving, though she, too, knew that she could not keep her. Instead Delbellis would have to promise she’d return to them soon. Monte, who was equally unhappy about her student leaving again, promised her she’d teach her her signature recipe if she returned to Elderwalk as soon as she could.

The conversation moved on to how the rest of the Feathers would not follow Delbellis, but instead travel to the North. Delbellis told Fayed about the necromancers, and the looming threat that was nearing Elderwalk. Diremound was already in the midst of it. She implored him to take action, and help out their neighbouring cities, though the man seemed reluctant to do so. Delbellis later left a note addressed to the city elders to do the same.

Despite the good atmosphere, it appeared that Cynic and Aragir weren’t able to keep their minds off their current reality. The fact that another Feather was leaving, and the things that were going on in Diremound and the North.

When the group had turned in for the night, Aragir took out his crystal ball to Scry on his older brother Druindar and see what was going on in Diremound. What he found was the now less-royally armoured paladin hiding behind a wall, waiting for an opportunity to attack a nearing seafarer, though he was quickly outnumbered. Fortunately, backup would come swiftly when Erevan, sporting a logo with ‘CC’ on his gold-adorned leather armour, approached him with a party in tow.

Before Aragir could process what he had seen, his thought was promptly interrupted by Cynic, who was now sitting beside him to ask if everything was alright. This audibly startled the elf, which in turn roused Delbellis again. Asking Aragir to meet him outside, Cynic managed to convince Delbellis that it was merely a bathroom break and then headed outside.

There he tried to speak with Aragir about how he felt about the current situation, though it seemed both of them had a hard time getting on the same wavelength. At best, they agreed that Delbellis’ departure bothered them, and that they were glad to still have each other.

The next day, the party went to the Last Bat, where Delbellis was to meet with Korra and Master Kira. They waited for the pair to finish planning their route and then went outside together. It was time to say goodbye. Delbellis quickly hugged her friends, and she received some gifts from all of them. Cynic had given her a golden necklace, Loxen gave her small wooden totems that she had carved of the Four Feathers, and Aragir gave her one of a pair of sending stones that he had bought early this morning, in hopes they would maintain contact. Finally, Delbellis gave Aragir all of her remaining potions, reminding him to use them wisely, before she turned to join the pair on their course for the port of Brassdorf.

Not long after Delbellis had gone out of sight, the group spotted two Fold members dragging the remaining Getaway grunt to a nearby building, followed by the same cloaked individual that Aragir had spotted earlier in the crowds during their battle. While the figure seemed to not want to be spotted by the other Fold members, they made no attempt to stay out of view of the Feathers.

As Aragir suggested that perhaps they had found the ‘spy’ Cassius had mentioned was tailing them before, the group cautiously approached the building. When the figure noticed them nearing, they got up, seemingly awaiting them.

When the group was near, she removed her hood, and introduced herself as Agent Soul Damakos, a human member of the Fold who was assigned to keep an eye on the Feathers. She quickly remarked her surprise at the two missing members, and suggested that she join them to fill the ranks. Seemingly in an act of good faith, she shared with them the scroll that detailed her mission. However, upon reading that the Fold, or more specifically their general Hachi Borosu, was in fact suspicious of the Four Feathers after their emergence from the White Mountains, and that Soul was assigned to determine whether they were a threat, the group was yet wary of her presence. This seemed to not bother the rogue, and she quickly suggested she’d help them find out what the Fold could extract from the Getaway member they were keeping inside the building.

Once inside, Soul announced that the Four Feathers had a right to know what was going on, and pressured the other Fold members into allowing the group to participate in the interrogation. The Getaway grunt, named Razor, was remarkably stubborn, and after a few failed attempts to extract useful information Aragir decided to use Detect Thoughts on him.

Through reading his mind, the group found out that Razor was from Greenmill, though he would not join the Getaways until his time in the streets of Brassdorf. He had received a letter stating his duties by orders from a certain ‘Uncle’. His boss, Joe, mentioned that one of the Feathers needed to be taught a lesson. Later through the grunt’s memories, his boss Joe was seen receiving the compass from Geralt, the bloodhunter tiefling the group had encountered in the catacombs and the one who had taken Cynic’s blood.

Coincidentally, the Getaways base of operations was also situated in Greenmill, in an underground bar under a barn.

Pleased with the outcome, the Fold members quickly sprung into action and took the grunt with them.

The group was then once more left alone with Agent Damakos, and it was time to head North. Were there Four Feathers yet again…?
