Wizard's Warnings

The group decided to take a rest in the Snoring Lobster and split in two groups for activities. Cerrule and Aragir stayed behind to rest and work on their magical abilities, while Delbellis and Cynic went to check out the Adventurer's Guild and how to possibly get back into the catacombs unseen so that they could retrieve the light emitting crystal deep below. There, they observed a crowd in front of the Guild as it was being guarded by the Golden Garde. Looking around, the duo met with a brand new adventurer - Penzi! Penzi was impressionable and amazed by the heroic deeds of Cynic and Delbellis. They talked a little bit, impressing him further until the duo decided to get going and continued to look for a way into the catacombs...

After a short while, they arrived at a small alleyway next to the Sunrise Ruby, where some of the Getaways would frequent. Here, they found a small grate with a pathway downwards. They found that it led into the basement area of the Guild, but Delbellis quickly discovered that the hallway was definitely rigged with a trap. She marked this with an empty wine bottle for when they would come back with the whole party... Before they returned, Delbellis went out to buy some food and drinks but Cynic returned immediately. They regrouped with Aragir and Cerrule in the inn, where they shared some of the food. They spent some time together here until dark, and then headed out towards the alley...

Through the grate, they made their way into the basement - carefully avoiding the trap (though Aragir did activate it accidentally, and it seemed to shift something further away). They encountered a figure in the dark carrying around a torch and quickly decided to hide from it, but when Cynic failed to do so they discovered the figure to be none other than Vaeri Aelar, the elven wizard from the Wizard's Guild. She, and two others, were making their way into the catacombs to see Myrneas for themselves. The party followed. Aragir noticed a peculiar floating ethereal eyeball gazing at him, but he was unable to do anything about it until it disappeared again on its own.

They all arrived at the Waiting Chambers, where Gustav confronted the two groups and blocked a path out from the catacombs behind him. While Vaeri came closer and cast True Strike in an effort to understand his combat capabilities, the party decided to instead hurry towards Myrneas in order to retrieve the beacon before it was too late. At the chamber leading into the city, they noticed the increased intensity of the light eminating from the crystal down below. The party quickly went in to find a figure standing over it, seemingly absorbing some kind of energy from it. The figure appeared to be Weylin! The party slowly confronted him, and they were able to snatch the crystal from his use, but not before the majority of its powers were absorbed by him. Vaeri joined the party at the city after Aragir's raven was sent for her, and together they confronted Weylin. Alas, the old wizard managed to escape.

However, before he left, Aragir penetrated his thoughts and detected them, learning more about his past and reasonings. He learned about Weylin's past where he, as a boy, would play with several strange gems in a forest. As a youth, he appeared to be exiled from a village for unknown reasons. Further, Aragir learned that Weylin had the ability to travel through time, but he was ultimately captured in a Saffron Stone by the original founders of the Scarlet Academy in a confrontation - seemingly at the height of the 100-Year War. An untold time passed before Weylin escaped that pocket dimension, after which he seemed to have lost his ability to travel through time. Weylin's thoughts revealed his need for more energy, possibly a way for him to regain those powers. A final thought showed Aragir the origin of Weylin's strange sparking and glitching crown. This vestige was seemingly borrowed from mind flayer figures in a dark chamber somewhere... As this vision appeared, Aragir was promptly ejected from Weylin's thoughts as the mage left the scene.

Having failed her counterspell to Weylin's departing spell, Vaeri turned to the frozen figures around the city. Together with the party, she managed to release one of the beings in the city by using combined spells once again - including Dispel. They brought the released individual to the Wizard's Guild through a Dimension Door spell. Right before that, Aragir noticed another gazing eye on him, which Delbellis managed to spot before it also disappeared...

Entering Vaeri's study from out of the catacombs, the party was advised to find out more about Weylin's origins while the Wizard's Guild attempted to nurse the ancient elf back to health. As it was too late to see anyone at this nightly hour, the party decided to have a moment of respite at the inn before they would head out to seek for Eldgran Wiscard...
