The Book and the Box

As the final blow to the strange creature was being delivered, a magical door appeared. Here, another similar creature stepped out to yank away the wounded one and disappear... Whispertale was saved! On the floor, a book written in a strange language was dropped right as the door disappeared. Regardless, the village was saved and the party was victorious. For both the client and their guild, the Adventurer's Guild. A reward surely awaited!

Still, the book remained a problem. It could not be read by any of the party members, but it might hold a clue to the creatures it was owned by. Or what had even happened to them. After a debriefing with the mayor of Whispertale, it was suggested that they have the book examed by a researcher that was visiting Abador at the time; Eldgran Wiscard.

As the party finished up to take a well deserved rest, Bolgar Largebuckle approached. Assuming it would be but a small task if they were to go to Abador, the party was asked to pick up an item at the Midway Outpost, an old watch tower in the Redfox Fields. To make this official, Bolgar signed a letter of proof for the party to take and show at the tower.

The party decided to stay the night at Sleepwhisper Inn. As they winded down, they had another look at the strange book. It was clearly unreadable, but... something was found between two pages. A small note, written in a more readable language; something about collecting royal blood and regrouping in Brassdorf. With this information in mind, the group took their rest...

The next morning the party departed for the Midway Outpost, which was about halfway on the road to Abador. As they rode over the Madelaine Plains, the book was yet again examined. Its language appeared geometrical in shapes and style and, upon closer inspection, seemed to form more distinguishable patterns when two pages were put closer together. It took them another three days to arrive at the Midway Outpost.

Here, they met up with Eri Boulderbane, the lead of a small surveillance unit. She gave the party a small parcel that needed to be delivered to captain Jade Aewynn of Abador. The party accepted this follow-up quest. As they departed, the party decided to talk to some of the guards that were stationed here. It was revealed that the parcel contained a cylinder shaped object that was found by an exploratory team at the Daggerborne Ruins. One of the guards, Ursim Orcmaster, would know more. And he would tell this object was lodged in the wall when they found it, and how they managed to pull it out right before something frightened them and prompted them to retreat. He claimed not to have seen what had alarmed them, but that he had felt uncomfortable with staying behind either way.

The party left the watch tower behind and headed towards Abador. On their way, they decided to take a peek inside the parcel. What did this object look like? They carefully opened it up, revealing a stone, cylinder-shaped bar. On each of its sides a dimly glowing symbol could be observed, though none of them seemed to recognise it...

Two days later, they arrived in Abador. It was a large, busy, lively city - a stark difference with Whispertale. And as the party stepped out of their carriage, they stood before the main building of the Citywatch. Could captain Jade be found here...?
