Welcome to Yggdrasil
The year is 488 Post Transcription. The world of Yggdrasil entered a period of peace following the 100-Year War, almost half a millenia ago. Factions who previously faced eachother for land or coin have since been united under a single banner in recent chaos. The unification of the major powers meant a surge of increase in socio-economic and scientific progress, though complete unification did not succeed all over the globe. The continents make trading possible by ships, especially between the Eastern Kingdoms and the massive but mountainous continent Avalon where the waters are gentle and currents relaxed.
Our story begins smaller. Within the Eastern Kingdoms, along the coasts of Hoarder's Appeal on the trade routes where merchants and adventurers meet, a small inn situated at an intersection. Twig Bed & Bar, a rustic three-story house stands where weary merchant or adventurer makes their stop to stock up and rest before resuming their ways onto the larger settlements ahead. The hour is late, the skies darkened the environment aside from the warm glow that eminates through the window glass and between the creaks of the wooden walls or doors. Here, anyone is welcome and, when entering the building, the various tables - some empty and others occupied by 2 or 3 people - appears to house members of various races and sexes. Music can be heard, in the middle of the bar, a smaller person appears sitting on a lone stool. He holds an instrument and plays a beautiful piece, tugging away at the strings. Surrounded by most members within this establishment they listen to him, including the barmaid who tends the bar yet enjoys the ambiance this musician creates. He quiets down and several in the audience start clapping softly, coins tossed onto a small mug in front of him. After a brief pause, the musician starts playing a slower tune. "Allow me to tell you a story", he begins. The acoustics perfectly in tune with his voice. "Years ago, and maybe some more," he continues, "there was a fine crew, not big - just four!". Members of the audience begin smiling and shuffle forward to hear. Some seem to know this story, others perk up to hear the rest. "The Four Feathers they're called, mighty they were but fought a yet mightier foe." The tune picks up. "44 Years since the summon by lords, a job they must do, adventurer rewards. They met up as strangers with each stranger pasts, but together their destiny led to stranger paths." 44 years earlier, our story however, have much more humble beginnings. Before the bard finishes his story, we shift our focus to the outskirts of a village some ways away - Whispertale...
You meet up with a group of adventurers, sent to Whispertale on an assignment. Welcomed by the guild's liaison, Gareth Hedral and Bolgar Largebuckle, you begin your quest gathering information. Seeking info, you split in groups. One group began talking to the guards on the watchtowers to find out what they've seen. The other group decided to go talk to the mayor. You spoke to the mayor, Helga Duskhearth, at Whispertale per request of your guild, the Adventurer's Guild. Here you learn that the son of the mayor, Leo, has gone missing. During this conversation, you receive the following information:
"The son of Whispertale's mayor, Leo Duskhearth has disappeared half a week ago." "We believe her son is unlikely to be in this town and is assumed to have been taken outside the zone." "There's the woods in the south, beyond the farmlands, where lumber is collected for the fairly harsh winters. It is quite a large forest. There's also large rock formations to the north and the west that is a hard for traders to travel through so paths remain unused around it." "The mayor has requested not be bothered at this time and wishes to not have this matter leak into the public. No statement has been made and will not be made until more is known about the situation." "The boy has left abruptly, his quarters untouched. Perhaps the guards around the outskirts may have seen something."
Meanwhile, the group talking to the watch tower guards bring information regarding to several locations around the village. When the group meets back up at the tavern, they spot a villager walking off into the fields towards the west - the mine. The group follows the newest victim into the abandoned mine, discovering that some entity in here is affecting the people of Whispertale (and the party, as well). Delving deeper, they come into a dark area where this entity has been residing - a weakened creature, feeding off the mindcontrolled villagers - now dead. With this in front of them, the party decides to stop this madness. The battle begins.
