A joyful Dragonborn hailing from Avalon seeking to prove herself, traveling to the Eastern Kingdoms to do so. Loxen carries with her a seemingly magical weapon capable of communicating through the disembodied voice of a male.

Background

Her parents are/were contributing members of the Vildrith clan. Father a defender, mother a huntress. In this clan generally the kids and the elderly take on a caring role. Since she stayed small, she was not allowed to become a defender or join the hunts, but instead was expected to help the caretakers. Mother was always nice, maybe a little overbearing because of her size. She always tried to shed a positive light on his assigned role in the tribe and make it clear how important it is for the clan.

Mother has been trying to find out together with the clan elder why she remained so small, but eventually they have accepted this fact. Mother blames herself a bit for not feeding her more.

A Big Life Event

She was always really close with her father and looked up to him as a defender. She used to say she will make her papa proud as a defender one day, as well. Her father died defending the clan when it was attacked by [?]

The feeling of making her papa proud became something she cherished and held onto. Some of her fondest memories with him involved being a defender and talking about and enacting his epic adventures. Ofcourse, she fully expected to grow into a big dragonborn like her parents. She had hoped he was just a bit ‘late’ for a long time but eventually realized she would stay small, and looked for other means to become strong despite her size. Ofcourse, her father is not around anymore to tell her he would love and be proud of her whatever she turned out to be. Something her mother would keep telling her, but she would never really accept.

Causing Trouble

She has tried to secretly join battles of the defenders several times despite being rejected in the ranks. Most of the times they caught her in time and brought her back to the village, stating how dangerous it is. She would have to do shitty chores overseen by the village elder as a punishment. Things like mending/sewing clothes or polishing weapons. As a result she became really good at it. She spent so much time in the elder(woman)’s care that she became like a second mother to her albeit being tough on her.

One day they didn’t find out in time and she was almost killed by one of the enemies. She was rescued just in time by one of the defenders who took a dangerous blow and had to recover for a while. The clan leaders discussed what to do with her as they thought the situation became unmanageable in their eyes. Her mother always stood up for her and was always able to calm them and make things better for her, partly because of her status as a top huntress. However they agreed things could not go on like this and told her they considered sending them to a different clan (maybe one that is in a safe area or does not involve defending or fighting at all) Her mother was fully prepared to leave the clan and her role for her daughter, but she decided to take the responsibility and leave on her own.

Travelling

After leaving the clan, she was a bit aimless for a while. Looking for ways to become stronger but quickly finding out that cuts and bruises actually are really hurtful. She left her clan in silence but sends her mother letters telling her about her well-being now and then, but never telling where she is as she might go and look for her. (which she might be doing anyway?). She has a tendency to make something she did sound more epic than it really was in her letters.

A Historic Discovery

She kept writing and receiving letters to her friend Arunic who was now a historian student in the capital. One day he tells of a new archeological discovery, about an altar that is possibly linked to historic documents of a great warrior/general who was said to defeat countless enemies and lead his clan to victory in turbulent times. Studying several accounts they have cause to think this general was losing the battle and had performed a ritual of sorts in this very temple after which his tides turned. He returned to the temple when he died of old age and left his belongings there and ordered his clan to close it up, making the altar his tomb and taking the secrets with him in the grave. The ritual referred to even older documents of which parts were discovered. They think the general might have destroyed or lost parts of the old documents and have yet to discover if he altered what remained.

Hearing all of this, Loxen felt compelled to visit this place even though it was a restricted area. Being there he decided to perform the ritual that was written in a booklet by one of the historians translating the documents. What could go wrong?

The Ritual/Pact

She ended up with a pact that had great promise. Whenever she would enter a battle she would grow into a great and strong warrior, only to reduce in size again when the battle is over, which was not really what she had expected. She is determined to become stronger and hopefully stay big and strong to one day return to her clan with her head held high. Obviously, her friend and her stopped sending letters after this as she had pissed off her friend by entering the tomb, who in turn got reprimanded for sharing the information that he did and being forced to take responsibility for what his friend had done. Up to this day she remains ignorant as to whether her friend was eventually expelled for his actions or not.

Hobbies

Storytelling. Loxen has a great amount of fantasy and loves telling stories about great adventures and battles. As a kid she used to tell about the epic adventures of her dad adding the necessary drama, which she would tell around the campfires. The kids loved her stories. Her letters tend to sound a bit like his stories as she keeps a close, but slightly exaggerated account of her/the party’s everyday adventures.

Love Life

Loxen‘s focus is mainly on becoming a great hero and she is generally not really concerned with men. However, she is open to the concept and who knows she might encounter someone special during her travels. As she grew up with strong male figures around her, she is more attracted by men who can fend for themselves and not so much the intellectual type.

Fears

Maybe her biggest fear is eventually failing and never being able to return to her clan with honor. She tends to shake the thought and live in the moment. When it comes to worldly fears she can be a bit irresponsible and might take on enemies to hard for her to handle as she doesn’t allow herself to be fearful of enemies. She is however very fearful of the less tangible dangers she cannot smack with her weapon. The supernatural, dark and invisible.

She is also a bit afraid her friend will reject her/won’t accept her as a friend anymore (until she has made things better?). She avoids further contact because she does not want to face this truth as she cannot bear letting down any more people.

in general can be described also as fear of letting others down.

World View

She is not a very spiritual person despite obviously knowing there is more, and treats her pact deity a bit like she would a friend or teacher. The concept of a pact and connecting to a higher power on a regular basis that comes with being a Paladin is rather new to her. This leads her to sometimes neglect her deity a bit when it comes to things like prayer. Luckily, this particular deity does not mind butting in to give his opinion or move her to do his will.

Military prowess and defending the weak is an important part of her upbringing and view.

Extra

Golden Dragon's Tooth
She carries a dragon’s tooth said to be granted as a divine reward from a golden dragon to her father for his wisdom and bravery. No one knows how he really got a hold of it though.

Name
Draconian names start with the clan name and proceed with the first name. Often they get a nickname from youth that describes their defining characteristic or an important event. Her nickname means ‘ember’. Given to her because even the tiniest ember could become a great fire. But she never really understood nor appreciated this name. So she will claim to anyone who does not speak Draconian that it means ‘Glory’.

for the time being she avoids members of her clan. For this reason she also hides her clan name. Dragonborn or people who know Dragonic races may find the absence of a clan name odd.
